What is a Globe Angel Valve?
A globe angel valve is a type of valve used to stop, start, and regulate the flow of a liquid or gas in piping systems. It gets its name from its spherical shaped body and angel wing-shaped disc that swivels to allow or prevent flow.
Some key features of a globe angel valve include:
- Spherical body shape with angel wings-shaped disc inside
- Disc is connected to stem that moves up and down to open and close valve
- Provides precise flow control
- Suitable for throttling applications
- Available in a variety of materials like bronze, steel, stainless steel etc.
How Does a Globe Angel Valve Work?
A globe angel valve works by lifting or lowering the angel wing-shaped disc to open and close the valve. Here are the operating steps:
- When the valve is fully closed, the disc sits flush against the seat ring blocking the inlet port completely. The fluid or gas cannot flow past it.
- As the stem is lifted, the disc rises and begins uncovering the inlet port opening. This allows fluid to flow through the valve.
- The higher the stem is lifted, the more the disc rises opening the valve further. This increases the flow rate.
- When the disc is fully raised, the valve is completely open allowing maximum flow.
- Lowering the stem causes the disc to move back towards the seat, reducing and eventually stopping flow.
- When the disc makes contact again with the seat, the inlet port is closed and flow stops.
Applications of Globe Angel Valves
Globe angel valves are commonly used in the following applications:
- Cooling systems – To control water or coolant flow.
- Hydraulic systems – To regulate fluid flow to actuators.
- Gas lines – For starting, stopping and throttling gas flow.
- Plumbing systems – To precisely regulate water flow rate.
- Chemical plants – To control flow of chemicals and acids.
- Refineries – To meter oil and petrochemical flows.
- Power plants – For steam, feedwater and condensate flow control.
